Hall cooling and fresh air supply at WIHO Hofbauer GmbH in Schlierbach

High internal heat loads led to unstable temperature conditions in the production area. Even slight fluctuations in the micrometer range were affecting process quality. INFRANORM® implemented an integrated solution combining factory cooling and fresh air supply. The result is stable temperatures combined with reduced energy consumption.

Project details

With the expansion of the existing warehouse and additional assembly areas, the internal heat loads rose to approximately 200 kW. Existing systems were unable to sufficiently compensate for temperature fluctuations throughout the day, which led to increased setup times and readjustments. These deviations were critical for manufacturing at the micrometer level.

The implementation took place under challenging conditions. These included limited space in the outdoor area, difficult installation indoors, and the integration of the new solution into the existing infrastructure while production was ongoing.

An integrated hall cooling and ventilation solution was implemented based on a two-stage adiabatic evaporative cooling system with intelligent airflow management and central PLC control. The system operates with an air flow rate of 56,000 m³/h and utilizes recirculated air in year-round operation. Heating, machine cooling, and airflow management were systematically integrated.

The result is a stable hall temperature with a maximum fluctuation of 2 °C. Production conditions were sustainably stabilized, setup and post-processing efforts were reduced, and manufacturing tolerances were maintained more reliably. At the same time, operating costs were reduced by 77 % and CO₂ emissions were reduced by 83 %.

“It was crucial for us to create stable temperature conditions in order to be able to reliably meet the required manufacturing tolerances. With the INFRANORM solution® We were able to significantly reduce temperature fluctuations and sustainably stabilize our processes. ”

synopsis

The project demonstrates that in industrial manufacturing, it is not the absolute temperature but its stability that is crucial. Through the systematic integration of cooling, airflow, and control systems, an existing infrastructure was specifically enhanced and optimized to meet process requirements.

The benefits for WIHO Hofbauer GmbH:

  • Consistent productionconditions at the micrometer level
  • Reduced effort forsetup and rework
  • Significantly loweroperating costs
  • Significant reductionin CO₂ emissions
  • Higher process reliability and quality

In short: Integrated hall cooling creates stable processes and measurable economic benefits.
