Efficient heat recovery at IBS in Teufenbach-Katsch

IBS Austria GmbH develops and manufactures highly specialized systems for paper machines that are used in the paper industry worldwide. Two new paper drying lines have been built in Teufenbach-Katsch, which produce large quantities of hot and humid exhaust air during the drying process. The aim of the project was to efficiently recover this process energy, reduce energy consumption and at the same time ensure safe and permanently reliable plant operation.

Project details

Two new paper drying lines with pre- and main drying chambers were installed in an existing production hall. The exhaust air temperatures of the main chambers reach up to 90 °C. In addition, the exhaust air is contaminated with process-typical, sometimes sticky and aggressive substances, which places the highest demands on material durability and cleanability.

INFRANORM implemented for every drying line® a combined supply and exhaust system with plate heat exchanger. The entire interior design, including filter module and heat exchanger housing, was made of stainless steel V2A. The energy contained in the hot exhaust air is used to preheat the supply air. As an option, an integrated reheating register allows an additional increase in temperature.

The systems were first pre-assembled by the plant manufacturer, then dismantled and rebuilt directly at IBS in two construction phases. This ensured precise integration into the new production line.

The result: Efficient heat recovery, significantly lower energy consumption and permanently safe operation even under extreme process conditions.

„For us, it was crucial that the system withstands real conditions — high temperatures, demanding exhaust air, full load and low residual moisture in the drying chamber. Together with INFRANORM® we were able to develop the required parameters and INFRANORM® has proven that they can do just that.“
