Energy-efficient hall cooling for Neuman Aluminium's extrusion plant

Neuman Aluminium operates two production halls at its Marktl site, in which various metal processing processes take place. The resulting heat loads due to extrusion, waterjet cutting, cutting, punching, milling, laser and MIG welding processes result in high room temperatures, which stress both employees and machines. In addition, solar heat inputs aggravate the situation. The aim of the project was to supply the halls with pleasantly tempered fresh air all year round and thus create a stable, energy-efficient production environment.

Project details

Die Sustainable Hall Conditioning Neuman's solution is based on a two-stage adiabatic cooling system that brings up to 98,000 m³/h of cooled and filtered fresh air into the two production halls. Through free cooling at low outdoor temperatures, mixed air operation in winter and the addition of warm indoor air, a stable climate is achieved all year round without causing heating costs.

The system was implemented in a compact modular design due to low roof load capacities. All components could be installed via a single roof opening. Air is brought in via textile air ducts, differently configured nozzles and long-throw nozzles in order to supply the halls evenly and draft-free.

The result: A significantly more pleasant working environment, lower temperatures even on hot summer days, and significantly reduced energy use compared to classic chillers.

“The two halls were converted into production, and the statics and the limited space available pose a particular challenge. The installed system worked very well in the first hall, which is why the second hall was also equipped with it. The 32°C measured in the hall without conditioning is unreasonable for employees. With Sustainable Hall Conditioning, temperatures do not exceed 25 °C, even at 36.7 °C outside temperature. ”
