Holistic production infrastructure and hall ventilation technology for GMT Wintersteller

GMT Wintersteller has opened its new plant II in Abtenau and has brought all mechanical processing processes together at one location. The wide variety of processing processes — including turning, milling, grinding, sawing, pipe bending and welding — creates complex requirements for air quality, heat loads and energy efficiency. The aim of the project was to implement a holistic production infrastructure that protects employees, creates a pleasant working environment and at the same time minimizes operating costs.

Project details

For the new plant II, INFRANORM® developed a site-wide infrastructure concept that covers all processing areas. 38 self-cleaning oil and emulsion mist filters were installed in the machine shops, which achieve a separation efficiency of 99.97 percent using glass fiber drainage technology and HEPA afterfilters. The filtered air is returned to the hall in recirculating mode, which minimizes energy losses.

A supplementary supply and exhaust system removes up to 350 kW of waste heat via roof fans and enables up to 120,000 m³/h exhaust air flow in summer. The supply air system was taken over from the old production plant, expanded and equipped with heating, cooling and heat recovery functions.

For the grinding shop, a Indoor air purification realized with reverse layer ventilation. The grinding dust is collected by a cartridge filter with an automatic filter extinguishing system and removed outdoors in summer and returned in winter in recirculating mode.

All heating and cooling energy is provided by a reversible heat pump, powered by a new photovoltaic system. Both hot water tanks and cold water tanks ensure efficient and demand-oriented system operation.

The result: Significantly improved air quality, lower emissions, improved indoor climate and an energy-efficient production site with a high level of operational safety.

“With INFRANORM®, we have a partner who not only enables us to reduce operating costs, protect our employees and comply with legal requirements, but also to protect the environment. We are pleased with perfectly running systems and satisfied employees. ”
