Precision manufacturing with constant temperatures at voestalpine BÖHLER Aerospace

In Kapfenberg, voestalpine BÖHLER Aerospace produces heavy-duty drop forged parts made of titanium alloys, high-alloyed steels and nickel-based alloys. Mechanical finishing causes large heat loads, which, in combination with solar inputs, create a highly complex production environment. At the same time, temperatures in the area of processing machines must remain within a narrow range all year round in order to ensure precision of processing. Sustainable Hall Conditioning from INFRANORM® now ensures that employees and production benefit from stable conditions all year round.

Project details

INFRANORM® installed two Sustainable Hall Conditioning Systems with a total of four cooling units that provide up to 56,000 m³/h of chilled fresh air. The two-stage adiabatic cooling system replaces a conventional refrigeration unit with 317 kW output and enables high volumes of fresh air with minimal energy consumption.

The supply air is introduced draft-free into the individual zones via individually manufactured textile air outlets. Zone-specific regulation ensures that temperature limits are met even when production requirements change. The use of warm exhaust air completely reduces ventilation heat losses. For constant operation in winter, a fully automatic gas heating system is integrated into the ventilation units.

The result: Constant temperatures throughout the processing area, significantly improved working conditions and a significant reduction in energy and operating costs.

“The plant has now been running stably for an entire winter and an entire summer and has kept the limits of the specified temperature range stable. Employees appreciate the same temperature all year round. Compared to conventional compression systems, we can save more than two thirds of energy. ”
