Process Cooling with a Central 4 °C Cooling Network at TIGER Coatings in Wels
At the Wels site, a central chilled water supply for production lines and supply air coolers was to be established. The challenge was the stable provision of 4 °C chilled water with very low temperature differentials and varying consumer requirements. INFRANORM® implemented a redundant cooling network with hydraulic separation and individual temperature control. The system ensures high process stability, operational reliability, and expandability.

Project details
At the Wels site, 12 cooling belts and 11 supply air coolers were to be connected to a new central 4 °C cooling network. The required total cooling capacity was 800 kW. Due to the low supply temperatures and small temperature differences, high control accuracy, operational reliability, and protection against icing were required.
Additionally, the system had to different temperature requirements cover the loads, operate energy-efficiently, and enable low-noise operation.
INFRANORM® implemented a redundant chilled water system with two chillers, hydraulic separation via a glycol circuit, a 20,000-liter buffer tank, frequency-controlled pump technology, and individual temperature control for each load. Recooling is performed by air-cooled recoolers with EC fans.
The result is a stable and flexible 4 °C chilled water supply with high system availability, energy-efficient operation, and an expandable infrastructure for future production requirements.
„Entscheidend war für uns eine Lösung, die hohe Betriebssicherheit mit flexibler Temperaturregelung und langfristiger Erweiterbarkeit verbindet.“
