Energy-efficient hall cooling for plastics production at Kiefel Packaging

Kiefel Packaging is a global technology leader in the development and manufacture of machines, tools and automation equipment for processing plastic films. Climate-friendly and energy-efficient hall cooling was sought for the new 2,100 m² production hall at the Micheldorf site, which ensures a pleasant indoor climate and high air quality despite high internal loads.

Project details

Kiefel relies on the Sustainable Hall Conditioning INFRANORM® technology. Two two-stage adiabatic cooling units deliver up to 30,000 m³/h draft-free, cooled fresh air. The cooling units only use water as refrigerant and operate a consistently efficient indirect and direct evaporation process.

Even at an outside temperature of 37°C, the system achieves a pleasant supply air temperature of 19°C. Laser-perforated textile air channels ensure uniform air distribution without the risks of drafts. In free cooling mode, only natural outdoor air is used at cooler outdoor temperatures, which means that high temperature control is possible even without cooling mode.

The result: Significantly lower hall temperatures, better air quality, high employee satisfaction and massively reduced energy and operating costs.

“INFRANORM® has already significantly reduced temperatures in our production in summer 2019 and created a draft-free supply of fresh air for our employees. The installation is a major improvement in workplace quality and is also very energy-saving and sustainable. ”
